A way of appearing offline is you click on the chat button in the bottom right corner and at the top of this list there is an icon that says options. Click on that and select go offline and then no one can see if your online.
this really works!! there was this really annoying person who kept messaging so i followed these instructions and poof! no more bothering! :)
